10 best MOBAs for Android

10 best MOBAs for Android

MOBAs are a relatively newer gaming genre on mobile. For those who don’t know, MOBA stands for Mobile Online Battle Arena. They came from a huge following on PC which includes the likes of League of Legends and DOTA 2. The genre is so popular that many sites cover it like a sport and teams can compete for actual cash prizes. The MOBA market on Android isn’t big, but there are a few decent titles to choose from. Here are the best MOBAs for Android!

Ace of Arenas

Ace of Arenas is a fairly run-of-the-mill MOBA. That makes it great for beginners new to the genre. It boasts a large player base. However, it can still take some time to get into a match. We’re not sure why. You can also play as many games as you want without having to buy anything. We liked that a lot. It features decent graphics as well as a unique control scheme where you employ both tapping and swiping to use abilities and attack. Like most MOBAs, the point is to destroy the other team’s Core in order to win the game. It’s a solid overall experience.

Battle Bay

We’re still pretty shocked that Rovio made a MOBA. We’re equally shocked that it’s not half bad. This is one of the casual MOBAs. However, it’s not quite as casual as something like Titan Brawl. It features various vehicles (in place of heroes), weapons, armor, abilities, items, etc. There is also a mechanic to make guilds. Matches consist of five vs five and they don’t last very long. It’s definitely a good MOBA for beginners, but there’s enough there for some hardcore players too.

Call of Champions

Call of Champions is another popular MOBA. It has a lot of things going for it. The biggest feature is the short game lengths. Most games are over inside of five minutes. That gives it that built for mobile feeling where you’re not committing 30 minutes of your life to each match. It also includes eSports features such as Spectator Mode. You can just watch matches that way if you want to. Perhaps its best feature is that games don’t end if other players quit. The game replaces them with AI. The match just keeps going from there. We appreciated that.

Heroes Evolved

Heroes Evolved is a fairly popular MOBA. It also has some of the most unique features. The basic experience is pretty good, too. It features over 40 heroes, a clan system, short match options, and more. It also includes a Chaotic Strike game mode. You have no mana to manage and faster cooldowns. It’s actually quite fun. There aren’t a ton of MOBAs like this one. It might even be good for eSports someday.

Heroes of Order and Chaos

Price: Free with in-app purchases
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Heroes of Order and Chaos is one of the newer MOBAs. It’s also surprisingly good considering it’s a Gameloft game. It has a massive collection of 57 playable heroes. In addition, it includes no energy system. That means you can play as often as you want. Other features include three vs three and vs five matches, upgradeable heroes, a Fun Mode, and even features for eSports commentary. There really isn’t a lot to complain about with this one. It’s a rock solid MOBA.

Iron League

DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Iron League is one of the newer MOBAs. It doesn’t have a ton of players yet. There is a lot of potential, though. It features three vs three combat with ten minute maximum match lengths. In addition, the game includes 30 characters, simple controls, and various game modes. The developers are still working with some bug fixes and performance improvements. We recommend keeping this one on your radar, though. It’s good enough to make the list, but it could end up being even better someday.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

Price: Free with in-app purchases
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is one of the oldest MOBAs on mobile. In terms of sheer download numbers, it’s also the most popular. The game features five vs five battles, simple controls, ten minute match lengths, and more. The Google Play description boasts ten second matchmaking wait times. That’s a bit exaggerated. Everything else is top notch, though. Players who are disconnected can rejoin the same battle. We thought that was kind of cool. It’s definitely right up there among the best MOBAs.

Planet of Heroes

Price: Free with in-app purchases
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Planet of Heroes is an up-and-coming MOBA. In terms of features, it’s fairly decent. The game includes three difficulty modes for AI combat, RPG elements, three vs three combat, and seven minute match lengths. It’s probably not good enough for eSports. It leans a bit too casual for that. However, there is a lot of potential for it to become that hardcore. You can play as often as you want and the developers boast as fair of an experience as any. It’s also one of the few MOBAs with a single-player campaign mode. Neat!

Titan Brawl

Price: Free with in-app purchases
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Titan Brawl is one of the simpler MOBAs. That makes it great for beginners to the genre. The game’s biggest feature is the match length. Most matches are over in three minutes or less. That makes it an excellent bridge between MOBA and casual gaming. However, it does lean more toward casual. You don’t have the large maps, complicated drops and objectives, etc of larger, more hardcore MOBAs. It’s okay for the occasional play, though.

Vainglory

Price: Free with in-app purchases
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Vainglory exploded on to the mobile scene in 2015 and it’s easily among the most popular mobile MOBAs. It boasts a roster of over 25 heroes. That’s a fairly decent selection. Matches can be set for seven minutes for quick plays. There is also an option for 25 minute matches for all-day slugfests. In terms of mechanics and game play, Vainglory boasts 60fps game play and 30ms control responsiveness. That caters to the hardcore MOBA fans quite well. It’s one of the most popular MOBAs on Android for a reason. Its popularity also makes match wait times pretty low.
